Monitaly Fall/Winter 2014
Written by: Geo Hagan

The brand Monitaly was founded in 1997, and it’s the brainchild of the highly respected designer Yuki Matsuda (of Yakuten fame). The founding principle of the brand is simple: it aims to revitalize classic and timeless American silhouettes by combining them with modern designs and superior craftsmanship.

With the weather starting to change in NYC to autumn-like temperatures, the clothes from the new Monitaly collection look extremely appealing. The entire collection looks extremely versatile – spanning the spectrum from outdoors inspired themes to formal clothes re-contextualized with unique fabrics and innovative design twists.

Peruse the slideshow above and you will quickly notice that Mr. Matsuda is a true master in his field. There are impressive patchwork suits, denim workwear pieces, military-inspired peacoats, expertly-fitting quilted blazers and rugged military-style bombers. One of the standout pieces is a shawl collar winter jacket that perfectly straddles the line of casual and formal wear with ease and elegance.
