The battle of global athletic brands has kicked into full gear. Nike and Adidas are at each other’s throats, and Under Armour is lurking not far behind, seeking to get its share of the spoils. The latest master move in this ongoing competition belongs to Nike. The mammoth swoosh brand just opened a huge retail space in Miami’s popular Lincoln Road shopping district. The flagship occupies a whopping 31,000-plus square feet and some very impressive Miami-inspired design elements. For example, the exterior of the store has surfaces wrapped in concrete brise-soleil, and it also features a waffle iron and Nike Windrunner pattern designed to emphasize the magnificent natural Floridian sun. Inside the store, there is a must-see art piece by Miami-based artist, Jessy Nite.
