Written by: Staff

It’s not often you come across a genuine world explorer with the caliber of Mike Horn. This South African explorer has undertaken many perilous adventures including once circling the planet Earth along the equator in 2001. At one point, he even had to have his fingertips amputated because of severe frostbite.

For his final adventure, he is planning to circumnavigate the planet from the North to South pole. The purpose of this Pole2Pole trip is to promote environmental conservation and he will be traveling on his yacht named Pangaea and traversing the land portion in a Mercedes G-Class. He will be traveling through Asia, Australia & Africa and Panerai made a special watch for this monumental trip.

The journey will take two years, and he will be wearing Panerai’s Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days GMT (PAM00719) on his wrist. This robust watch is 47mm in diameter and outfitted with a self-winding P.9001 movement. The back of the watch is encased in solid titanium, and it is engraved with an artistic motif depicting a penguin and a polar bear. These two animals represent the different poles he is traveling to.

You can get your hands on this watch for about $10,000 and you can find out more information here.
